About this deal

My neighbour has gone down the standard national brood route and has now ended up on brood and a half, I would suggest that it is easier to inspect the 14 x 12 than brood and a half as it is less work and there is less chance of missing/harming the queen. Due to the soft properties of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) and the steam moulding method used to create these products we must inform you that every box will have some sign of manufacturing marks, whether this be from ejecting from the tool onto the heavily padded conveyor belt or light marks from the core steam vents. If not shifting hives about weight should be too much of an issue - a frame of brood doesnt weigh much. I did try them for a couple of years and decided against and prefer the management of 2 Nationals (or WBC's for that matter). Each hive component is made from a very high density material, 120g/litre - up to 4 times stronger than the poly used for packaging. Dividers can also be removed during the winter to unite the colony and reintroduced the following season. We have also reduced the issue of frames being propolised down by incorporating a frame runner, whilst maintaining sufficient top bee space reducing the risk of crushing bees. This means we can anchor the wood closer to help stop twisting with the shrinking and expanding of the timber cladding. If you are not satisfied with purchase or if you have any other problems with the frames you receive, please hesitate to contact us and we will try our best to rectify the problem as soon as possible. I feel my bees over-winter better on a single brood and with OMFs, they have more space to retreat from any severe weather conditions than if a single standard brood only. We have also made the roof 100% thicker than competitor’s allowing the highest point of heat loss to be vastly reduced.

This covers against any faults or defects in the workmanship or serious timber defects for a period of 12 months. and to be honest the 14 x 12 box is usually big enough to take even the biggest colony and the most fecund of queens- by the time they have got to full size you have supers on anyway and they have the extra space they need . The shed floor comes as standard with 18mm oriented strand board on 38 x 50 runners keeping the floor 2" off the ground. Each component is one piece moulded so there are no weak joints and very minimal assembly needed before you add your bees.We are proud to be the leading craftsmen of handmade beehives, using a combination of tried and tested techniques and exciting new innovations to offer a complete range of beekeeping equipment. There are other reasons which I'm not experienced enough to comment on but make sense to me such as helping expansion and lower likelyhood to swarm. But it's all a matter of personal choice and what suits YOU - the only way to find out is to try a 14 x 12 and see.
