About this deal

The plot is also pretty self explanatory and I could see every step of the story long before it came to fruition, which meant I wasn't surprised by anything that happened. Reread on January 3, 2023: My favorite thing about this book: when the heroine realizes that the hero *sees* her in a way no one else ever has. The house which is home to herself and her four sisters is about to be taken from them if they don't come up with the money owing.

Radcliffe too is a well fleshed out character, and I enjoyed the insight we get into his backstory, his fighting at Waterloo and his relationship with his deceased father. Kitty has never been one to back down from a challenge, so she leaves home and heads toward the most dangerous battleground in all of England: the London season. I would have assumed Kitty’s character to have a very perky voice but the narration made her sound very muted.

A principled yet ruthless Miss Kitty Talbot determined to do everything to save her home and her sisters by snaring a landed gentleman and cynical yet fiercely protective of his own family Lord Radcliffe who alone sees through her schemes. A Regency Romance where the eldest daughter of a family of five girls must marry for money or she and her sisters will be homeless.

She met her forthright match in Radcliffe, they did not like one another and he was soon 'onto her' and worked out her schemes. Miss Irvin, you must, I do beg you, tell us what happened to Cecy and Montagu, how life has treated sweet Beatrice and romantic Jane. Kitty was a young woman on a mission, head of her family with four sister dependents to secure a future for. And I would've forgiven it its simplistic characters if it maybe had some interesting character interactions or dynamics, but no, that's nowhere to be found either. Her quest for a rich husband is driven by her desire to provide a stable home for her sisters, and that's admirable.

Being a girl from the countryside she had to learn how to manipulate the situations and people to survive in London during the season. She needs a RICH husband within the next four months if she has to save her family home and ensure the future of her four younger sisters. I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been a bit more focused and had a greater depth of feeling. As with many modern authors writing Regency romances, however, I did feel that historical accuracy was not the novel's strength, and the manner of writing and characters' speech did not fit the era.
