About this deal

Overall, it's not a bad album at all, but there's a lot of better progressive rock albums out there. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Jan Akkerman's Segovia like "Le Clochard" provides a mellower contrast before the multi-tracked flute lead ballad "Janis" which adorned the B side of the "Hocus Pocus" single. But proof that Focus was capable of bending the time-space continuum can be found in the album’s opener—also the band’s biggest hit. After releasing their debut album Focus Plays Focus (1970), the group suffered a setback when Akkerman requested that van Leer fire Dresden and Cleuver so his former Brainbox bandmate, drummer Pierre van der Linden, could join the band. It went on to peak at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart, [6] number 8 on the US Billboard 200, [7] and number 4 on the Dutch Album Top 100 chart. Focus II aka Moving Waves Unlike the debut album, that had the vocal version of Focus removed to be replaced by House of the King, this album was just renamed for international release. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. According to BBC Radio DJ Bob Harris, demand was so great for Focus LPs by 1972 that the band’s British label, Polydor, simultaneously ran vinyl at all five of its record plants around the clock. In truth, the riff on “Hocus Pocus” is enough to make the case, but Moving Waves is a masterwork in its own right, and Decibel is proud to recognize the influence of these prog shamans.

I bought this CD to save any further wear on my original vinyl LP which I bought in the early 70's just after the shortened single version of "Hocus Pocus" had been a belated hit in the UK.From that point forward, Focus largely became an instrumental act, composed of highly compulsive personalities, seemingly hellbent on breaking down barriers between genres. It's not an Album for anyone who wants to have a singalong because there are no vocals whatsoever but it's purely one of the best instrumental renditions ever produced. The album features " Hocus Pocus" a hard rock song featuring keyboardist Thijs van Leer's yodelling, scat singing, and whistling, and "Eruption", a 22-minute track inspired by the opera Euridice by Italian composer Jacopo Peri.

Focus II was released to a mostly positive response and remains one of their most commercially successful albums, reaching No. The Dutch quartet’s second full-length album, Moving Waves —alternately titled Focus II —is one of the least-probable success stories of the early part of the 1970s. Within the framework of a kick-ass rock song you’ll find a killer hook, a pair of whizz-bang guitars solos, “yodeling gnomes” (thanks for the phraseology go out to my Dutch pal, Martijn de Vries), non-lexicable vocals, whistling, tasty jazz flute, and to quote Martijn again, “a drummer who makes me want to head butt the Eiffel Tower. Moving Waves", a piano and vocal solo by van Leer, features lyrics by Sufi singer, poet, and teacher Inayat Khan.Aquí se incluye su tema más representativo, "Hocus Pocus", una maravilla que no se puede describir en palabras, pues siempre nos quedaríamos cortos.

Euridice" is a classical lied which segues into the Gregorian-inspired "Dayglow" and followed by van der Linden's drum solo, "Endless Road". After a bit of reflection most of us realised that there was far more depth and genuinely great music on this album.Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term.
