About this deal

With descriptive prose, captivating characters and more than one intriguing secret hidden deep in Naomi’s past, Mothers and Daughters is a heartwarming and very satisfying read, that may well make you reflect on your own family relationships. The novel never strayed into twee territory despite the reader feeling relatively safe in the knowledge of an ultimately happy ending, regardless of the upheaval along the way. Martha, whom we meet first is the elder of two siblings and is desperately trying for a baby with her husband Tom. Her relationship with an old flame and her daughters relationships with their respective partners but not all is warm and cosy.

My 26th novel - An Ideal Husband - will be published next year and I hope you'll enjoy meeting the Langford family who have to face more than their fair share of trouble! However, the story then gets a little contrived with a rather irritatingly simple solution that feels too easy. With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. That said a perfectly good read - it’s not the first or last book I’ve ever read where the author finds a convenient solution to the complex picture that’s been painted. Her latter books have been much grittier, quite heart wrenching at times (A Swallowtail Summer), but this story feels like a little lean towards Erica of old. Erica James is most firmly on my favourite author list; I’ve read virtually all of her books over the years from the very first one and she never disappoints. Biography: Erica James is the author of twenty-three internationally bestselling novels, with recent Sunday Times Top Ten bestsellers including Swallowtail Summer, Coming Home to Island House and, most recently the hardback bestseller, Letters from the Past. I just adored the interaction between the family and the discovery of things that happened in the past that the mother kept from the girls really added to the drama.

Also, you wouldn’t find out the sex at the first scan – they offer gender scans from about 16 weeks but the NHS will offer to tell you the gender scan at 20 weeks.I wasn’t too fussed on Martha to start with, but she grew on me – Willow was a delight, although she let herself be walked over. The tale fired my imagination as I knew that it would and there was certainly never a dull or boring moment.
