She lives in southwest England, and enjoys walking and working in her garden as well as doing nothing whenever she has the chance. This book teaches us a lot about cultural objects from around the world, it also uses a rhythm of counting to show the journey throughout the book. Since studying at the Royal College of Art, he has painted in numerous locations for exhibitions, commissions and publications, and has become a tutor at Goldsmiths University. My Granny Went to Market: A Round-The-World Counting Rhyme by Stella Blackstone is a rhyming book about a Granny who takes a magic carpet ride around the world.By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. My Granny Went to Market: A Round-the-World Counting Rhyme by Stella Blackstone is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations. As it says in the title it is written in rhyme and every place she visits she picks up a certain amount of objects (one more than the previous place) therefore is a counting book also.

The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. It is perfect for counting along with your children and the images in the book make it more fun as you scavenger to count each item. This book would be a great way to lead into activities and lessons about different countries and cultures. Reading this book, I actually learned about different cultures and things that went along with them. I enjoyed reading this book because in some of the cultures I did not realize one of their customs and normalities.

The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Fly away with Granny as she takes a magic carpet ride around the world, collecting souvenirs from each location! Each page also provides a rich preview of what different culture look like on different parts of the world and the illustrations give a great representation of the geography. She has read and written poetry for as long as she can remember, and her favourite books include Louis Untermeyer? It reinforces numeracy skills whilst teaching young children about different countries around the world. The book is cleverly done as a counting rhyme, tracking granny’s progress around the world and increasing the number of objects bought as she travels.

Finally, there is also a map at the front and back of the book that shows the path of Granny's travels. There is a lot going on, so someone would be able to play a game of iSpy or different counting activities. I like that some cultural elements are explained- for example, the names of the cats Granny gets in Thailand, Puyin and Puchai, are the Thai words for "little girl" and "little boy". Award-winning author Stella Blackstone has written many of Barefoot's best-selling titles, including the Bear series and the Cleo the Cat series. A great story of a granny who travelled to different countries around the world, picking up different cultural objects.Taking young readers on an adventure through ten different countries, this book also introduces children to maps and entertains them with rhyme along the way. Also, this book brings all of the cultural diversities together all in one setting as well as it shows how different each of them are. This is a fun way of showing the reader what different cultures and places look like around the world, along with learning to count! This stylishly illustrated counting book from a Best New Illustrator, opens with a vibrant cockerel crowing to welcome the day and ends with a solitary barn owl flying off the page and slipping into the night. Definitely will use in my teaching as there are multiple opportunities for studying cultures and their history.
