About this deal

This was not in fact a euphemism for napping: Dhaliwal has produced a book that has become one of the most controversial, hotly tipped reads this year. I know I could have booked the book out but I thought if it was so popular then why should I jump the queue. A great read and insight into life in London I can't say much for the lead charachter Puppy, he is not likable and his veiws are ignorant and obnoxious, but never the less very entertaining and laugh out loud funny! A successful but middle aged and somewhat pathetic male character gets parachuted into the story just to make some point about the author at least not being white and pathetic.

The blurb on the book jacket says Nirpal is set to become the British Michel Houellebecq, a comparison he certainly wouldn't have a problem with, though I think Houellebecq-light would be a more accurate description.

Using whatever and whoever he can, Puppy explores the grit and glamour of a city seething with the possibilities and politics . Maybe I should leave such questions to his therapist, who after a few months of sessions has made him feel "more happy and relaxed than ever before. I've never seen her drunk, she almost never uses bad language, she can count the number of men she's slept with on one hand.

He says he did start to find it irritating when, for example, a woman in his yoga class had a go at him for being a crap husband. You go to India and you see a country taking the most courageous steps to emulate what we have here: constitutional democracy and freedom of expression and the rule of law. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Useless white teenagers get parachuted into the story for the author to make a point that at least he wasn't a useless white teenager.

Shit happens - if you've got the nuts not to be bound by what you think your background is, if you're willing to, you know, fuck it and explore a bit. Using whatever and whoever he can, Puppy explores the grit and glamour of a city seething with the possibilities and politics of money, race and sex- an incendiary cocktail that explodes, changing him and those closest to him forever.

The story is simple - he goes to parties, gets pissed, goes out with a super model, sleeps with an indian and then runs off with a load of cash he was meant to give to a friend of a friend who is in trouble.I did a genetic test a couple of years ago which showed I’m a very slow caffeine metaboliser; it affects me for a long time afterwards. Good-looking, disenchanted, adventurous, he abandons his conservative family to live life to the full, exploiting his own charms to explore the hedonistic pleasures of high society London. I'm finding that the Nirpal in front of me, the Nirpal who wrote Tourism, is different from the person I was expecting after reading Jones's columns. But what was amusing was that while I was there, the popularity of the Mockney accent really took off.

We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. I saw this book at my local Library and kept waiting for it to come back in to the system so i could borrow it. We had to look ourselves and our lives, with all the mistakes and regrets, and see the patterns we had been locked into that made us live in a state of robotic dysfunction, making us unbearably miserable. I know that Nirpal has paid for sex (from Liz's columns, obviously), and I want to know if the description in the book is the same as his own. I'm sure the author was trying to tell the reader something but couldn't figure out what exactly it was.Meditating on my father’s pain – so much greater and deeply buried than mine has ever been – I broke into heaving sobs.
