About this deal

Things get predictably worse at night time, with poor details and grain cropping up when things get dimmer. The dedicated Night mode doesn’t do much in the way of lighting up scenes, either. Not only that, but there’s no zoom on this set-up either, which is a handy camera feature that’s made its way into most mid-range and flagship handsets. As far as we can tell, the Portrait mode is the same image area as the standard lens - this is not a 2x telephoto lens. The affect of blur is seen live pre capture, which is really handy. There is of course the front-facing 'selfie' camera, too, with f/2.0 lens. By default it's a 6MP resolution in 4:3 aspect ratio, although a 24MP option is available too, which presumably works on the same basis as the 64MP mode.

There’s also a night mode at your disposal, but it’s not as impressive as similar modes on many other phones like the Google Pixel 4a. It allows you to capture shots that look a little brighter than would otherwise be the case, but it never truly impressed us. However, we can't help but compare the Nokia 8.3 5G with the recently reviewed Google Pixel 4a and by comparison the camera functionality often comes up short. The Nokia 8.3 5G is a decent phone in its own right. Its biggest draw is its eye-catching design, and we found ourselves regularly getting lost in the depths of its beautiful aurora-like rear. While things are far more reserved around the front, there’s no escaping the benefit of its larger-than-average display, particularly if you spend a lot of time browsing content or watching Netflix series on loop. The Nokia 8.3 5G is powered by a 4500mAh battery and features 18W fast charging. With every day use it offers solid stamina. Using it as my main work and personal phone I universally managed to eke out around two day’s use before having to reach for the charger.Charge speeds are reasonably good with the phone generally taking just over an hour to go from 0-100% using the in box charger. You should buy the Nokia 8.3 5G if… You’re after good, clean software In addition to those various lenses, it is possible to pinch the screen to employ digital zoom, up to 10x.

The blur effect is seen live, so you know what to expect once the photo is taken. For the best part, blur is applied really well. There's also a choice of various 'Zeiss' blur effects, including Classic, Smooth, Swirl, Modern, Star and Heart and a slider to manually select the severity of the blur effect. We had fun experimenting here.OZO Audio is on board. We've explained what this is in great detail in our review of the Panasonic Lumix G100. However, there is no manual control over the intelligent microphones in the 8.3 5G - it's all automatic, presumably through scene detection. For Mobile: lets you select a monthly Device Plan Credit Agreement (3-36 months) with a monthly Airtime Plan. Phone Plans over 12 months require a 24-month Monthly Airtime Plan. You can pay off your Device Plan early, and if you do, you can then keep your Airtime Plan on a 30-day contract or leave. If your Airtime Plan ends for any reason, you will need to keep on paying your monthly Device Plan (either in full or monthly) If you are looking for a 5G equipped phone that doesn't cost the earth, then the Nokia 8.3 5G steps in to the picture.
